Employee in the Spotlight: Dorian Maat

Welcome to the next edition of Mopinion’s Employee in the Spotlight! In this blog series we introduce the Mopinion team members to you one by one. Last month we sat down with Digital Feedback Specialist Kevin and this month, it’s time for the social media extraordinaire, one of our newest and youngest employees, Dorian Maat.

Meet Dorian. Dorian joined Mopinion’s Marketing team this year as part of an internship. A few months later, when his internship came to a close, we asked him to stay over the summer to continue giving us a helping hand with our marketing activities, which he gladly accepted. When Dorian is not helping us boost our presence on social media, he’s making his own liqueur or out on the soccer field.

Recently we had a video call to get to know Dorian a bit better and learn more about his experience at Mopinion.

What does your position at Mopinion entail?

“As a Marketing employee my days are never the same. I focus on updating social media, but I also write blogs and work on items in Salesforce. I like the variety in my job.”

What does a typical work day look like for you?

“Due to COVID-19 I ended up doing my entire internship from home. Now I’m a Marketing employee and I still work mostly from home. After a good breakfast, I start making my to-do list, so that I can prioritise my tasks for the day. Usually I start off with easier tasks and then after my lunch break I work on the more challenging and in depth work.”

What is your favorite part about working at Mopinion?

“I really appreciate the freedom and responsibility Mopinion has given me. No one is constantly looking over my shoulder to make sure I’m doing what I need to do, not even in my first few weeks. Social media is my favourite thing to do, I love learning about all the perks and benefits of leveraging these channels for marketing purposes.”

What are the biggest challenges you face in your job?

“In the beginning I really had to get used to communicating in English with my colleagues. We are an international team and for some colleagues English is the preferred language. Besides the language each and every task was new to me. I’m 19 years old, just starting my working career, so I’m still learning every day.”

What is your proudest moment at Mopinion?

“When I was asked to come and work for Mopinion after my internship.

And now for some fun questions…

What do you like to do in your free time?

“Ever since I was five years old, I’ve played soccer and I still love it. Other than that I like to go out with friends, play video games and go to the gym. The past few months my cousin and I started making our own limoncello, so that was a new experience.

What is your guilty pleasure?

“Chilling in a hot tub with a nice beer or my homemade limoncello.”

Who inspires you?

What is one thing you can’t live without?

“Family and friends.”

What is your favorite quote?

Believe you can and you’re halfway there
– Theodore Roosevelt –

What is your biggest fear?

“I used to be scared of the needles in the hospital.”

Where do you see yourself in five years?

“That’s a difficult question. Hopefully I’ve graduated, but I have no other plans yet. Maybe I’ll be travelling the world, go to a university or maybe I’m still working at Mopinion. Who knows.”

Employee in the Spotlight: Dorian Maat - drums

“I used to play drums and I even took some lessons. The drums are still in the attic, but I hardly play anymore. Now that I think about it… I should play more often.”
