Employee in the Spotlight: Elin

Employee in the Spotlight: Elin Jansson

Meet Elin. Elin is our newest Content Marketer here at Mopinion. With a true passion for writing, she’s our go-to girl for fresh and persuasive content. But when she’s not busy typing away behind her laptop and polishing off the latest blog post, you’ll probably find her reading, gaming or – as a true Swede would – listening to ABBA. That’s right, there’s a new office nerd in town. And we’re happy to have her on board!

Curious how Elin has experienced working at Mopinion thus far?

What does your position at Mopinion entail?

“As a Content Marketer at Mopinion my job is to bring awareness to both the Mopinion brand and its product(s). I like to think of myself as an educator in that my goal is to inform prospects and customers about why online feedback is important, how it can help them achieve their goals and of course, why our solution is the best. In that sense, I am responsible for bringing in new customers and prospects.”

What initially drew you to Mopinion?

“I got a really nice, warm and open vibe right off the bat. The tone of voice on the website made it sound like a great company to work for. And then of course, the interview itself confirmed that. I felt right at home.”

“It probably didn’t hurt that I come from a B2B SaaS background and knew that was an industry I wanted to continue working in”.

What does a typical work day look like for you?

“It really varies! And that’s why I like my job so much – no one day is the same. Sure, it’s mostly writing, but it’s writing all different kinds of content. I do everything from blog content to product marketing, updating our social media, performing SEO research and even things like creating fun company clips for team activities. But the one thing that stays the same is how I approach my work. Every morning I always hop on Asana and check which tasks have priority and what my deadlines are for various projects.”

What is your favourite part about working at Mopinion?

“Everyone at Mopinion is open to new ideas and opinions – I think this is because the hierarchy is so flat. It’s really great to be able to demonstrate my expertise knowing that there aren’t any limits. I can always pitch new ideas and run with them. So I guess in a sense, it’s the creative freedom that really makes Mopinion a great place to work!”

What are the biggest challenges you face in your job?

“Well I’ve only just started, but I’d say prioritisation is a challenge. Mopinion is a company with a lot going on (which is amazing!) but sometimes it means you want to do too much at once. So from time to time I have to take a step back and decide what I need to focus on for the best results.”

And now for some fun questions…

What do you like to do in your free time?

“In my personal life, I am really into video games (like Baldur’s Gate 3), my book club (there’s wine included, of course!), board games and baking.”

Elin tells us she actually started building her own adventure within Dungeons and Dragons, which means she is writing her own story within the game. Pretty creative, right?

Speaking of which, she also tries to boost her writing skills by setting out to write a certain amount of words everyday in November.

“It’s a challenge I’d wanted to try for a few years, so now I can combine it with my Dungeons and Dragons adventure!”

Who inspires you?

“I don’t think it’s a specific person. I am inspired by creativity. In my professional life, it’s brands like Oatly, Surreal or the Swedish brand Pressbyrån. Brands that do something different and break the mould with the regular content you see. So for example, Oatly – rather than using minimal copy and lots of visuals – pushes long copy and billboards with small images and a lot of wording. I think that’s really interesting.”

Additionally, Elin is also inspired by popular culture. She recently read a book called “Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow” by Gabrielle Zevin and was really affected by it.

“It’s nice to read things that present a perspective that is not usually represented in popular culture”.

Do you have a guilty pleasure?

“Reality TV. I really like watching shows like Love Is Blind, Temptation Island and Are You The One?”

What’s your favourite ABBA song?

“I’m a walking stereotype,” she laughs.

“But I really grew up with ABBA. There are so many absolute bangers, but my favourite would have to be Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A man after midnight)”.

What is your favourite quote?

Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.

Oscar Wilde

What GIF describes you best?

Where do you see yourself in five years?

“My boyfriend and I really want to buy a house or apartment together in The Hague. So hopefully that happens in the next 5 years.”

“It is also my ambition to write a book at some point. It doesn’t necessarily need to be published, it would be more for myself.”

What is something no one knows about you?

“A while back I discovered that I actually have really good night vision,” she giggles. “I do a lot of escape rooms with my boyfriend and once there was a task that required UV lighting (otherwise you couldn’t read it) but I could just see it with my naked eye!”

So if you’re ever in a bind and need a good pair of eyes, you know who to ask!
